Normalizing the Abnormal

What is abnormal? Anything that is sinful is abnormal. We are constantly diluting sin to fit our own world view. If we consider our ends righteous we redefine what is sinful and wrong. There are elements of fear and conformity that lead our culture to cultural despair. In order to achieve normalizing the abnormal we align ourselves with people who confirm our own biases.

Romans 12:1-2 (NASB):
“Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”

How to we set ourselves apart from the world and still be in it? Constantly reading the bible and praying to God. If sinning is abnormal how can we determine what normal is? The bible. It doesn’t only tell us what is sin but tells us how to live. If we are not focused on the bible we are very easily conformed to this world.

Our society gives us false righteous causes. We see the goal but don’t see the evil in front of us. God is the light. If we are conforming to the world darkness envelops us. We cannot see our evil deeds. Without light we can’t see this path leads us to hell. Everything abnormal in the light of God looks normal in our sight.

We are always guiding our life thru the lens of our feelings. The idea is if it feels good it must be normal. We use our own intellect to determine what is normal compared to what is abnormal. Cultural relativist understand this phenomenon more then most. Just because a culture normalizes something in a society it isn’t normal to God. Due to our sinful nature we are given the word of God to combat our sinful feelings and rely on truth.

We are creating our own truth in politics. We are superimposing Jesus into every cultural issue. Politicians say, “Jesus would agree with us” or “Jesus would be against their beliefs.” They turn our creator into a political weapon. He came to this earth to save us. Jesus didn’t come to this earth to set policy issues for the federal government. If something goes against the bible it is a sin. If it doesn’t then just stop.

What is the solution to stop a culture from normalizing the abnormal? Live by the bible. I’ll end with a verse.

Proverbs 3:5-7 (NASB):
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
and He will make your paths straight.
Do not be wise in your own eyes;
fear the Lord and turn away from evil.
