It is easy to allow someone else to make a stand. We pass the responsibility to take a stand on issues to celebrities or politicians. This fear of standing for the Truth is way too common. Many times, the unafraid are the false teachers. If you are given the gift of knowledge that gift is not for you to hold. Don’t wait for someone else to create “their truth.” Be an advocate of the truth.
“Don’t offend someone” is used as an excuse for complacency. There is a fear when you stand up to the truth you will turn people away from Christ. You have a made-up prophecy in your head when you say this. Truth is offensive to those who hide from the light. I’m not conflating being a jerk with speaking the truth boldly. Saying to someone that a sin is a sin isn’t being a jerk. Saying they have no hope away from the sin is being a jerk.
Fear of the truth leads to others creating their own truth. “Your truth” is a fiction created by those who don’t want to feel responsible to a higher power. Everything we do should reflect the truth found in the bible. When we don’t define the truth found in the bible someone else attempts to define the truth. They don’t look to the word but the culture. They believe people are inherently good. Therefore, the plurality of opinions equates to a truth. Never mind the fact that a plurality of people rebels against God. Better yet everyone at some point rebels against our creator. “2000 years ago, we didn’t have…,” is not an excuse to change the meaning of the bible. It is imposing our view on truth. Not good.
People who have a big microphone do not shy away from proclaiming their opinions all the time. Unfortunately, our culture is complacent in idolatry. We hold celebrities’ opinions in high value just because they are celebrities. The people that are complaining about celebrities’ opinions still hang on every word that is proclaimed from their mouth. They even use their own celebrity to battle against the other celebrity. People are essentially turning celebrities into their avatars.
It is not someone else’s job to proclaim the truth. It is your job. Everyday we need to share the truth to everyone who can hear. We all complain about our culture, yet we are not in constant pursuit of the Truth. We only stand up for causes that are important to us but not important to the kingdom of God. If God judges our culture you are not exempt. We are in this world. We are just as responsible for its destruction as the other guy. Also, we are “someone else.” Be the lamp-stand for Christ. Don’t be afraid.
