We live in a age where we attack truth like it is a virus. It is far easier to affirm your own beliefs then to ask questions. Our culture is lacking the ability to discern what is fact and what is fiction. We are afraid of claiming ignorance then feeling the need to have a hot take. Can we trust the sources to which we get our information? Are we truly living in an age of truth resistance?
It starts simply by how we define words. For example, someone may define a protest as a riot and a riot as a protest. We have two examples of this already. The summer of 2020 many people were rioting and causing millions of dollars of damages. This year a small group of people did violent acts at the capital building. Both are obviously wrong. The troubling fact is defining things to cast a narrative. Does a peaceful protest break curfew and break police lines and burn buildings? No. Is organizing a rally mean you are organizing a violent mob to take over the government? No. This shouldn’t be controversial but here we are.
We need to ask questions more then seeking to be affirmed. When you do not know the whole truth you should be able to admit it. Ironically people are getting scorned for just doing this. Let’s not rush to be the first one wrong. Most breaking big news is followed by pundits and media quickly reacting. Reaching bold conclusions out of rage never leads to Truth.
It is important for us not to fall for group think. When we are in this mode it is about claiming victory over the other tribe instead of verifying what is true. We even are putting Jesus into a political party. This is essentially grouping him into your own viewpoints instead of trying to emulate him. He is bigger than a party. Truth is bigger than a party. Your “group” can always be wrong and probably is. Nobody is perfect. Therefore groups we make are never perfect. Putting a group or party over God and his truth always leads to lies.
If we continue the trajectory we are on we are doomed to fail. We are clinging on to our identity and our truth and not trying to find the Truth. Our future is not coming from the Office of the President but from the Thrown of God. We are living for so much more. Truth is its own reward. Our reward doesn’t come from Earth but from above.
Well said Jeff, we are spiraling towards a very dangerous time. Emotion and feeling are being propped up as THE most important, and it is serving as a roadblock to what we could and should be as a people, as a country, but also as a servant of God. When we choose feelings over truth, it isnt long before we move to self over God, and we are mostly there now. Thank you for these words of truth and the reminder when God is truth, and we are called to seek Him first, we truly need to remember that call is to seek TRUTH first, in or lives but also to replace our feelings and opinions. Great article!
