If you pay any attention to the news exceptions are always getting turned into rules. The words that are always at the forefront is, “We need to start a conversation.” When the conversation is brought about on false pretenses the conversation tends to be ignored. When we turn exceptions into rules it helps us feel better. Rules on the other hand make us feel down about ourselves so we tend to ignore them.
Mathew 15: 7-9 (NASB):
“’You hypocrites, rightly did Isaiah prophesy of you; ‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far away from me, but in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the precepts of men.’’”
The doctrines that get taught that are not of God tend to be ones that make you feel better about your sin. Many people use Scripture Hopping to bend the bible to fit their own selfish purposes. When they finally find a narrative that fits their own biases they stick to it regardless of new information. Any new information that presents itself get twisted by them into an evil deed. If that deed exposes the truth the light of God exposes their filth. If false teachers have filth they make sure they are in the darkness so the truth doesn’t get exposed.
John 3:19 (NASB):
“This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil.”
John 3: 19 is my favorite verse in the bible. It explains the human condition in simple terms. This idea therefore branches out politically from morally justifications. If your own desires and wants to trump the good of others morally those ideas tend to spill over politically. People use their own experiences to justify actions in a general matter. A news story hits someone emotionally instead of looking at statistics and solutions that have a good effect on the general populace. The media and politicians get their fuel from an emotional reaction to a story instead of calm head prevailing.
A false teacher described above is like a media personality feeding off of emotion. They know emotive responses are more powerful then calmer heads looking at statistics and finding solutions to problems within our society. The lies they forward doesn’t expose the evils of our society but makes them feel part of something bigger then themselves. So, their aim is to inflate their ego instead of creating real solutions that promote real change.
Stories anymore show exceptions to problems in our society. If you watch the news, then you feel every problem is systemic. Every single ONE. When anyone exposes their lies the people that have an emotive response to the story lash out. John 3:19 therefore applies culturally. Every time a new perspective gets shown the response tends to be, “you don’t understand.” Truth doesn’t need to respond to emotive responses. When every exception gets shown as a rule our society degrades. The people that want to “start a conversation” lashes out when the other side responds negatively to a story. This double-speak is convenient to cover up your own sin but not convenient for showing the truth.
