The mainstream media anymore have this idea tacked down. They care more about generating emotions on any given issue then pursuing the truth. If we are honest with ourselves, we only care about things that generate emotions inside of us. It is easier for us to go down the emotional path then to find practical solutions to any given problem. Lies generate emotion far more then truth. Therefore, it is a lot easier for us as a society to go down the path of lies. Our only hope is to pursue the One that is the avatar of truth.
2 Timothy 4:3-4 (NASB):
“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.”
The key words in this passage is “their own desires.” It is very easy to hear things that make you feel better and reject ideas that make you feel worse. If an idea gives you a practical call to action, then you ignore it. Sometimes doing what is needed is not what makes you feel good about your protest.
The best example of this occurring is in the political realm. A politician protests a policy. Instead of that politician creating a law or a policy that solves the problem they lie. The castigate the other side as evil and unwilling to help anyone. Forget where you line up politically. This makes the pundit (probably should be a law maker) feel better about themselves and does absolutely nothing for the individual affected.
Looking at social media the posts that gets the most comments and interactions are those that are fueled by lies and emotions. A lie creates opposition. Therefore, that opposition gets used as a straw-man. “If you oppose this then you oppose everyone that gets affected,” a line that is used way too often. This constantly not only divides us individually but divides our nation may more than it needs to.
Lies lead to tribalism. Our nation gets separated ideologically from tribalism. Every difference in opinion that we have on issues gets shown as an act of violence. We don’t want to have this feeling, so we always head towards those who tell us what we want to hear. The only voices we surround ourselves with are voices that completely agree with us.
Our emotions turn into lies easily. Your own truth is not God’s truth. When we follow the Truth of God we will unite as a people. The rubric of truth is the Word of God. If something is in opposition to the Bible, then it is opposition to truth. Lies are easy but only the truth can heal our world and yourself. Every time you feel emotion amount a subject you should stop where you stand. Filter it thru the word of God. After that check whether the event is true or not. Living by the Truth is surely the only way to find truth.
