A New Religion In The Church

Our culture in the west bends the bible to our will. We are not mirroring the truth God want to tell us in scripture. The church is not recognizing the way the world is. Our culture in the church wants to create lies. It wants to bend lies based on the sin that it prefers. We turn to false messiahs to liberate us from the evil we create. This religion is what is now called “progressive.” While it is anything but progressive.

It all starts where our authority lies. Is the Word of God our ultimate authority? Is our person feeling our authority on morality? In the church, many times, our emotions on scripture becomes our ultimate authority. We want Jesus to agree with us on a lifestyle that we know deep down is a sin. It is very easy to care about the truth of scripture that doesn’t convict you. If you manipulate the Word to not feel wrong or convicted you become the authority, not God.

A problem that makes us start our own religion is not understand the world. The first basic fact is humans are not inherently good. After Adam sinned we are born into sin. Our flesh is constantly at war with our creator. Even as Christians we need God to be constantly working in us. We can’t be holy on our own. The only Utopian idea that works is when Jesus reigns on Earth. Every time we think morality and holiness can be achieved separate from God’s understanding it is not Christian. It is a whole new religion of its own.

As Christians we need to confront the lies we tell ourselves each day. Our emotions are not always relevant. They can be deceptions based on our own evil nature. We live in a culture that that says every emotion is relevant. An idea that has even bleed into the church. Bible studies consist on people talking a ridiculously amount of time on what a verse means. Most of these verses should be self evident. (End-times prophecy exception) We should take an active response to the verses instead of redefining the world “is.”

Our culture is full of false Messiah’s. We put our hope into the government to fix us. Also, we even elect religious figures in the church as a messianic figure. This definitely is controversial to say but we are not looking out for it. We need to make sure that these people give all their authority to Christ. Instead we give false teachers authority. We give these people the power we should only have for our true Savior.

This religion I’m describing looks very recognizable in our world. This is the religion of Progressivism. It infects our churches. We are not humbled by the Word. The logical conclusion is that we want the Word to be humbled by us. We change the world to give way to our ever-changing emotions. Essentially, we are trying to create reality in our own image and understanding. This false God is us. How are we any different from the enemy?
